Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Misconduct in the Workplace

Cost: £50

Join our online training session to gain insight and understanding of responding to disclosures of sexual misconduct in the workplace.

When someone discloses sexual misconduct at work, the response they receive can either reduce harm, or compound it.
Many professionals want to respond well but feel unsure about what to say, what not to say, and what their responsibilities are. This is particularly complex if the alleged perpetrator also works for the same organisation. This focused 90-minute session provides practical, trauma-informed guidance to help participants respond safely, confidently, and appropriately when a colleague shares an experience of sexual misconduct.
This session bridges the gap between policy and practice — moving beyond compliance to real-world conversations.

What this session covers

  • What constitutes a disclosure (formal and informal)
  • Understanding trauma and its impact on communication
  • Common unhelpful responses (and why they cause harm)
  • What to say, practical language and supportive phrases
  • Managing confidentiality and boundaries
  • When and how to escalate appropriately
  • Supporting yourself after receiving a disclosure

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise when a disclosure is taking place
  • Respond in a calm, supportive and non-judgemental manner
  • Avoid victim-blaming or minimising responses
  • Understand their organisational responsibilities
  • Signpost effectively and appropriately
  • Maintain professional boundaries while offering support

Workplace culture is shaped not only by policies, but by everyday responses.

This session equips staff and leaders with the skills to respond in ways that promote psychological safety, trust, and accountability.

No matter your role, knowing how to respond well matters.

Ideal for:

  • Line managers
  • HR and workforce leads
  • University and NHS staff
  • Safeguarding leads
